Joy Journal Vol. 4
Have you heard of the term Eudaimonic Well-Being?
No? I am new to the term too! I can barely pronounce it!
My good friend and artist Sarah Gardner of Juicy*S Art enlightened me to the term back in November when she stopped in Bakersfield to host a “Share Your Joy” art workshop! Eudaimonic Well-Being is the good feeling that comes from connection to the rest of humanity; a sense of meaning and purpose in life. A deeper, perhaps more burdensome, but MORE REWARDING well-being that comes from an intentional focus on a purpose larger than your own happiness.
Part of what is so meaningful about sharing joy or in Sarah's case--sharing what you create-- is the feeling of well-being that you experience when others experience the joy of receiving your creations or stories of joy. Scientists have determined that experiencing eudaimonic well-being helps our brain and nervous system heal trauma caused by adversity. It is by helping others that we help ourselves.
Learn more about her art practice and go buy her book “Share Your Joy: Mixed Media Shareable Art” it's one of my favorites! The photo above is some of her painted mixed media circles that she mailed to me a few weeks ago! Yes, I turned them into an I AM page!

- Positive Affirmation Trophies October After School Art ended with a confetti-filled bang with my creative partner in crime…trophy queen and positivity expert Cassandra Gear of By That One Girl. My art students had an absolute blast building each component of their trophy focused on 3D Art and utilizing positive affirmations to build confidence and self-acceptance. Cassandra is now popping up at schools, private parties, and team building events to spread joy and help others find celebration in the everyday! - Fall Inspired Food I am definitely not ashamed by the title “basic Fall bitch” as I seek out all the yummy dishes around town inspired by my favorite season. My current favorite is The GOURD-geous Morning by Radio Sandwich. A crispy, irresistible melt of red-curry roasted winter delicata squash, gouda, and cheddar cheeses on our house sesame sourdough. Layered with fresh basil, crispy french fried onions, a fried egg and slathered in fire-roasted poblano mayo. IT IS PURE PERFECTION. Linked the menu you here so you can go order it right meow. 🤤
- New Move, New Joy Amidst all the stress of moving to a new house with my family, I am finding so much freaking joy in making it a home. This is our first house that is truly OURS. I am loving hanging our favorite art, organizing, and adding all the little details that are so US! Reply to this email if you want our new address. You know I love surprise snail mail! 🐌📬 I, of course, will mail you something back!
Share Joy to Multiply It,
Emily
